reMarkable-Log 3

This ad that came up before a YouTube video that I watched was very interesting.  It starts off asking what the human race has become after showing a little girl become a monster when some tech was taken away from her.  It goes on to show how obsessed with technology we are and how our lives, our joy is centered only around technology.  How our entire lives are on technology.  We love having our entire lives, work and free time in technology.  We are trapped in it and everyone knew it but we couldn't resist it.  Our behavior was effected, and how we interact with other people.  Technology, which was meant to help us, is now attacking us.  It then goes to say how technology needs to be reinvented and that is what reMarkable is.  It is digital to get rid of clutter and "set a new human direction" and "get your brain back."
This ad was really well done.  It makes the color scheme, the music, and the animation all really depressing.  This is used to show the viewer that they need the digital paper tablet because otherwise, they'll never break free of the curse of technology.  A lot of the problems mentioned and shown in the ad are purely cultural based.  The American culture is really media centered and it creates a ton of problems.
This ad makes me super depressed.  Firstly the overall message is supposed to be positive because it ends with the solution to the whole problem.  But it starts off so depressing and that really sticks with me even after they propose the solution.  Secondly, it is sad because the ad was not made for the right reasons.  The ad was made to sell to consumers.  A change in how we use technology is definitely necessary and it people need to be aware.  While the idea for the tablet may have been born out of the wish to "change the direction of human technology," this ad is purely to sell it.
The way I view message is as depressing but others may view it as positive.  Because the tablet will be used to change things, it is a happy message.  They are proposing a solution!  Well, not really.  This is not a big enough solution.  People aren't going to change their habits with technology just because of one small change.  Although one small step is better than none, it is sad because they spend the whole ad telling us how messed up the human race is and how depressing our future is and then introduce a tiny change.

  1. I just watched the commercial, and I felt the same way. I especially resonated when it showed the concert with everyone recording them. I remember going to a Sam Smith concert and as I looked in front of me, I just saw a sea of cellphones who were trying to record it for Instagram or Snapchat. It's amazing how our world is so surrounded by technology and it's media to show how we need big steps to better our habits by when using this digital media.

  2. I watched the commercial as well and i think i can relate to what Jennifer is saying because now i feel like anything and everything anyone does needs to be documented maybe it's to make other jealous or to watch it later but no one likes to just live in the moment anymore, so i think you loose a lot of enjoyment from these fun excursions because people are always filming or vlogging it. And whats the point of filming it because you just lost the fun of the actual experience.
