Lovemarks-Log 4
Everybody loves Disney, how could they not? The company has turned itself into a Lovemark. When people hear the name they immediately think about their childhood spent watching the movies or going to the theme parks. People are loyal to Disney, and other Lovemark brands, beyond reason. Everyone is devoted to Disney and its products so much that they may not even know why anymore. This is the ultimate goal of every company, to have such a following of loyal people that you only need to show your brand name and people want it. Even in class talking about Lovemarks, when Disney was mentioned, everyone went "I love Disney!" Disney is a business, its goal to make money, not to "make dreams come true." The company makes a gross of $13,611 billion annually from their theme parks alone.
On the other side of the argument, it could be good that people feel such loyalty towards companies. It gives people a place that they feel happy and a part of something bigger than themselves which is what a lot of people want. Disney is making people happy, and in the current state of the world, that is necessary. The only thing that bothers me about this is that the company as a whole only cares about those people because of the money they generate. Yes, their movies are good, their parks are fun, and the idea of Disney is nice, but it should not have such a devoted and loyal following. The reason that I have these views on Disney is due to the way I was raised. I watched Disney movies but not in an obsessive way, I don't have the amazing childhood memories associated with Disney, (I don't have bad ones though just not really happy ones), and I was taught that I should not trust big corporations because they just want my money. I have nothing against the people who are loyal to Disney, it is just sad that the companies that are like Disney, Coca Cola, and Apple, don't really have to try to make money due to their following.
At the end of the line, when it comes down to it, Disney is a corporation built to make money, and all of the devoted followers are only a source of money.
Personally I've grown up with Disney enjoyed going to the theme parks (basically the person you described) but I've never really viewed Disney as a business it's always meant more to me than another company but now that i look at it from a different perspective I'm just another one of it's faithful customers but i enjoy to much to try to change my relationship from it.
